ARTWORKS EXHIBITION CONTEST:  The DeBose Foundation, Incorporated East Baton Rouge Elementary Exhibitions (Southern University Cade Library & Scotlandville Branch Library), Middle School Exhibitions (Magnolia Mound & Baton Rouge Community College), High School Exhibitions (Baton Rouge Gallery & Southern University Museum of Art) and Mixed School Levels (Greenwell Springs Branch Library). The theme is “Embracing The Arts”. Posters should reflect the Visual, Performing or Literary Arts or a combination of several art forms.


REQUIREMENTS
1.       Include Roster of Participants/Students and Title of Artwork;
2.       Submissions may include drawings, paintings, designs, prints, sculptures and mixed media works of art;
3.       Formats: Works should be matted, floated on mat boards or poster boards;
4.       Works should be adhere to the theme:  “EMBRACING THE ARTS”; and
5.       Presentation: Ready for display and/or to hang or mount to the walls.

DEBOSE POSTER CONTEST:  Students are being invited to design posters to enter this poster contest to show their talents in drawing and painting. These posters will be judged by professional artists of Baton Rouge who will award First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention prizes for outstanding artworks. All of the posters accepted for the contest will be presented in exhibitions at Southern University, Public Libraries and at other sites in Baton Rouge during the month of April 2008.


REQUIREMENTS

  1. Include Roster of Participants/Students and Title of Artwork (I.D. name, school, age, grade and telephone);
  2. Use a standard size (22”x28”) poster;
  3. Medium: pencils, crayons, markers, paint, mixed media, collage or any other medium of your choice.
  4. Adhere to the theme:  “EMBRACING THE ARTS “;
  5. Use imagination and creative freedom in poster design;
  6. Winners will be notified by EBR Schools Art Teachers; and
  7. DELIVERY:  Randell Henry, Department of Fine Arts, Southern University, Hours: 8 AM and 5 PM, on or before March 19, 2008, Southern University, Hayden Hall, Room 24, Baton Rouge, La. 70813

PIANO COMPETITION REGISTRATION INFORMATION


APPLICATION. PIANO SOLO REPERTOIRE ONLY. Contestant must register for participation through his/her Piano Teacher to the DeBose National Piano Competition, Southern University, Post Office Box 11153, Baton Rouge, LA 70813. Telephone Inquiries: 225-771-4924/225-387-5932. Fax: 225-387-5932. Executive Director: Myrtle E. David.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE. Registration Forms must be completed, signed and received, March 1 – Postmark. Confirmations will be sent via EMAIL OR U.S. MAIL, at LEVEL ENROLLMENT COMPLETION, upon receipt of application with appropriate fees. Contestants will not be scheduled without the Registration Fee (Non-Refundable after March 15).

REPERTOIRE/LEVEL/PROGRAM CLEARANCES/CHANGES DEADLINE. March 15th,-by Piano Teacher to the Registrar or Director. For questions regarding appropriate or comparable repertoire (i.e. Op. 36 No. 5 or Op. 36 No. 6) contact Registrar or Executive Director.

LATE REGISTRATION DEADLINE. Registration Forms will be accepted after March 1. The forms must be thoroughly completed and signed by the Contestant and Teacher. Registrations after March 1 will be subject to a Late Fee Charge of one dollar ($1.00) per day from March 1 to Postmark Date.

DEBOSE NATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION

Purpose:  DeBose is a signature program that serves student artists from the elementary years through college and young artist levels.  Recognized for its signature:  Tri-Trac-Pedagogy System, developed for the benefit of talent diversity (Average, “Late-Starters”, and Accelerated), the festival categories include: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  The College Division provides competition for Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior classifications.  Young Artist Division includes opportunities for Pre-College and College level contestants.

Eligibility:  Open to all student pianists currently registered with a piano teachers or studio from pre-college (beginning First Grade-Age 6) through college  academic levels (Senior-Age 27).  Available to international students enrolled in the United States.

Application: Registration materials must be secured, completed with authentic signatures of teacher and contestant, and accompanied with the appropriate Fee:  Pre-College-$30.00, College-$50.00, Young Artist-$75.00, made payable to DeBose National Piano Competition.  

Refund: Requests must be supported by medical or family emergency documentation.  Application should be made with the understanding that contestants must appear in person (live-presence); audio or video tapes are inadmissible.

Program: REQUIRED AND ALTERNATE/CHOICE composition lists are available by securing the DeBose Performance Procedures brochure.  Repertoire, periodically revised, is selected from standard classical piano literature with allowances for comparable compositions upon inquiry (225-387-5932).  Experimental and/or unpublished works are inadmissible.

Prizes: The DeBose Foundation assures all prizes and awards. First, Second and Third place
“ties” honored.  Certificates, trophies and scholarship (monetary) awards are contributed from memorials,
organizations, families and foundations.  All contestants are required to attend the Awards Recital
Ceremony.  Those not in attendance (or without teacher/family representation) will forfeit any award.
